At Whitwick St John the Baptist, children will be encouraged to see mathematics as both written and spoken language.
Our Maths curriculum is based on the outcomes set out in the National Curriculum Programme of Mathematics. We use a published scheme (White Rose Maths Hub) to support our planning and progression. We have selected this scheme, as we believe it supports our vision, values and whole school drivers and ensures the subject is taught systematically and progressively
At Whitwick St John, we believe basic skills of mathematics are vital to the successful futures of all our pupils to enable them to reason, problem solve and assess risk in a range of contexts.
Our pupils are encouraged to deepen their understanding of mathematics as they move through concrete, pictorial and abstract representations of different mathematical content.
Our rigorous curriculum allows the children to make better sense of the world around them making links between the mathematics they experience in school and that of everyday life.

Calculation Policy
Our calculation policy can be found on the policies page. It has been designed to match the expectations within the National Curriculum and has been split into the appropriate year groups. The policy covers addition, subtraction, multiplication and division.
