Music Extra-Curricular

At Whitwick St John the Baptist, we believe that Music develops pupils’ confidence, communication skills, creative skills and improves their emotional well-being.

Our pupils are provided with an enriched variety of musical experiences.

Our music curriculum enables our pupils to confidently play, read, compose, evaluate and appreciate music throughout the ages and diverse genres.

We passionately believe that children who show a keen interest in music should have the opportunity to explore and develop their interest further.

At Whitwick St John, our extra-curricular music offer includes:

School Choir (Yr 3-6)

The school choir meet at least once a week to rehearse and practice songs with Mrs Thomas, our Music Leader. They regularly perform at school events and events in the community. If your child is interested in choir, please contact Mrs Thomas. Choir resources and tracks can be found at the bottom of the page.

School Orchestra

Wee have recently introduced an exciting new musical ensemble. The group includes violins, flutes, guitars, a saxophone, and percussion instruments. It is led by one of our peripatetic music teachers, Mr. James Foster. The group aims to foster creativity and collaboration among pupils and provides them with an invaluable understanding of how to follow a conductor and play as a group. Although they have only been playing together since January, they have made brilliant progress and have already performed their first pieces. We are hoping that as more children learn instruments, the ensemble will grow—maybe even to a full orchestra!
