In this section:
Learning a new language provides both a pleasurable and valuable educational, social and cultural experience for pupils.
At Whitwick St John, the primary foreign language being taught is French, and this is taught to all pupils across KS2 (Years 3-6) and where possible in younger year groups.
Our French curriculum is based on the outcomes set out in the National Curriculum Programme of Study for Foreign Languages. We use a published scheme (Language Angels) to deliver our languages curriculum. We have selected this scheme, as we believe it supports our vision, values and whole school drivers and ensures the subject is taught systematically and progressively

At Whitwick St John the Baptist, we believe the study of Foreign Languages (French) prepares pupils to participate in a rapidly changing world in which work and other activities are increasingly carried out in languages other than English.
Our pupils use languages to communicate information responsibly, creatively and without discrimination.
Foreign Languages (French) is also about the broader curriculum – about understanding language and identity, about developing an international outlook, and about learning.
