Residential Visits

At Whitwick St John the Baptist, we have a long standing history dating back to the late 60's of taking part in residential visits.

We currently arrange visits for Year 2, 4 and 6.

Our residential trips are about having fun while taking part in all sorts of adventurous activities designed to help children learn and develop new skills and really shine as an individual and also as part of a team.

For many children, our school residentials are their first experience of staying away from home. Through going away with the school, the children are supported, encouraged, reassured and helped by school staff who they trust.

Our experience shows that the children return home even more confident and independent with a real sense of achievement.

Year 6

Year 6 visit Min-Y-Don, a Christian run centre situated on the Mawdach Estuary near Fairbourne for one week in September. Accommodation is in dormitories, food is plentiful and good, staff are well qualified and helpful. Activities, which include rock climbing, kayaking and archery, are designed to challenge and stretch.

An important element of the visit is the opportunity to work as part of a team and build links with other members of the year group, something which proves valuable for the challenges of Year 6.

Year 4

Year 4 visit Whitemoor Lakes, Lichfield, for 2 nights. The activities are different to those experienced at Beaumanor or Min-y-Don, they include: Climbing, Abseiling Raft Building, Rocket Launching…the list is endless!

Year 2

Year 2 visit Beaumanor Hall, a residential activity centre in Woodhouse Eaves, for two nights. There the children take part in various activities such as den building, outdoor crafts, team games and exploring minibeasts, generally enjoying the outdoors.
